MTNA 2006 National Convention, Austin, TX

Van Cliburn, Anthony Tobin, and Daniel PollackIn a later post I will write more about my trip, especially the time in Paris researching Debussy. Tonight, less than 24 hours after my return to Texas I listened to Van Cliburn’s keynote speech and tribute to his mother. It was good to hear his support of music in the schools, on the joy, meaning, and sublime transcendence that music can and should create. We all must do what we can to expose students, young people, and everyone to the “Wow!” experience of music. Only then will the art survive and more people pursue it.
