Tokyo

I took this shot when I accidently stumbled upon the relocated Yoshiwara, the legendary “pleasure area” dating to the Edo Period in Tokyo. I left my hostel, the Hotel New Azuma and went through one of the most destitute homeless areas, turned 3 blocks to the northwest, and suddenly saw taxis and cars circling the streets. Many neon and florescent signs advertise the services inside, offered at a higher price than in the comparable area in Shinjuku. This is the area the “high rollers” frequent, secretly. I took a chance by taking these photos, but the surreal atmosphere was too much to resist. This shot made Explore on Flickr:
