Recital Sunday April 5th at 4PM

I decided to post an Ondine video from my recital run-through last Sunday:

I will play the Horowitz piano again tomorrow. I am learning what it does.

I made a Tokyo video with morning scenes from Minowa, Minowabashi, and Kiyokawa in Minami-Senju:

Tobin Piano Students on YouTube

I decided to put some of my Regents School students on YouTube so their playing can be heard. Lexi is a 9th grader and plays Rachmaninoff’s famous c#minor prelude below:

Tokyo Raw subtitle attempt

I am eager to move forward on the Tokyo film project while I wait for my Peter Bay interview. He needs to postpone until the end of April. In the meantime, I will meet with Rose Taylor tomorrow to look at Debussy songs.

I made an attempt at subtitling for one interview segment of the Tokyo film. The owner of the Hotel New Azuma and another photographer are discussing the culture of Kiyokawa in Minami-Senju, Tokyo. The flickering unfortunately is florescent lights and I do not know how to fix that in post.

Should I change the position or color of subtitles or should I do a voiceover narration? I would like my Japanese friends and participants to be able to hear the original Japanese, but I could do a fadeout with an English voiceover.

Any ideas?

Tokyo Night: Kabukicho

I had a “yen” to work with my Tokyo footage all week. Tonight I set some footage from Shinjuku to my piano improvisation. The red-light district of Kabukicho, the business center of Shinjuku, shots from the top of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Tower, and a snippet of the Yamanote Line from Shinjuku Station appear.
